The Wallace Collection Seminar series - lecture presenting Project Stosch and its results - Monday, 25 April, at 5.30 pm on Zoom and YouTube

The Wallace Collection in London has a pleasure to invite you to the next Seminar in the History of Collecting during which Dr Paweł Gołyźniak (Research Fellow, Department of Classical Archaeology, Institute of Archaeology, Jagiellonian University in Krakow) will present his paper entitled ‘Philipp von Stosch (1691–1757) and his circle: collecting and studying of ancient engraved gems, from antiquarianism to proto-archaeology.’
The lecture will take place on Monday, 25 April, at 5.30 pm on Zoom and YouTube and not at the Wallace Collection Lecture Theatre.

An article by Paweł Gołyźniak entitled "Glyptic treasures in Krakow and Old Master paintings collection of Constantine Schmidt-Ciążyński", including presentation of Project Stosch's results has been just published in the proceedings of the international conference Collecting Antiquities from the Middle Ages to the End of the Nineteenth Century held on March 25-26, 2021 at the Wrocław University Institute of Art History.
The paper as well as the whole book are avaliable in Open Access from this link.

Dr Paweł Gołyźniak will be presenting project's preliminary results at the international conference Buying Art and Antiquities in Eighteenth Century Italy. His talk is entitled: "Philipp von Stosch (1691-1757) and his dominant position in terms of trade, collecting and research of engraved gems in the eighteenth-century Italy".

In the recent volume, Antiquity journal has publsihed an article by Paweł Gołyźniak which introduces the Stosch Project to the forum of the wrold archaeology! The paper is avaliable in Open Access from this link.

Dr Paweł Gołyźniak will be presenting project's preliminary results at the international conference Collecting Antiquities from the Middle Ages to the End of the Nineteenth Century. His talk is entitled: "Philipp von Stosch (1691 – 1757) – collecting, visual documentation, research and publication of ancient engraved gems as an example of transformation of eighteenth-century antiquarianism into proto-archaeology".

Dr Paweł Gołyźniak will be presenting project's preliminary results at the online seminar at the Faculty of Archaeology, Uinversity of Warsaw. His talk is entitled: "Drawings of engraved gems in the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints of the Princes Czartoryski Museum and the scholarly activities of Philipp von Stosch (1691-1757), the most important collector of gems in the eighteenth century".
